Last night we had the pleasure of performing at the Black Ensemble Theater for their International Cultural Festival. Their theater is actually located right across the street from us. We saw their building being built from the beginning of construction so it was great to be able to collaborate with them. And we hardly need to mention that the stage is a really great space.
The show was a presentation of our aesthetics as a theatrical taiko ensemble in an arts organization, using our core Gintenkai members and Fujima Ryu of Chicago. We also had some participation from the audience during the Q&A session asking about the history of Japanese dance and taiko, the meanings/stories behind each piece and the relationship of taiko to Western interpretations of music.
Thank you again to the Theater for having us, and we hope to expand and continue this partnership!
